KSDK – The economy has been hard on the housing market which means you need every edge you can get if you're trying to sell your house.

There are lots of little things you can do to make your house memorable. This morning, NewsChannel 5's Heidi Glaus talked with an expert.

TIPS:

Pack up things you don't use and store them away. De-cluttering makes rooms look bigger and more functional. You can also make closets look bigger by removing half of the clothing and removing shoes from the floor.

Merchandise the "lifestyle." Today's buyer is more interested in envisioning the lifestyle of the space. Put out place settings in the dining room. It's also a good idea to accessorize patio furniture outside.

Think "gathering room." Wherever visitors gather in your home, focus on improving the look of that area.

Focus on the kitchen and master bathroom. These two areas sell homes so make sure they are fully accessorised.

In the kitchen, put out a bread board with spices and bread. Put out place setting, display a recipe book and the nice towels and if possible update the hardware on cabinets.

In the bathroom, create a spa feel by displaying beautiful soaps, oils and of course, your best towels.

Above all, keep the kitchen and master bathroom clean!

Last but not least, make the first impression count at the main entrance by planting blooming flowers and keeping landscaping tidy.

Inside, use fresh flowers. This will help enliven rooms and make the home seem more welcoming.
